Watersprites 5 June 09
30 June 2009
For the small community of watersprites in the pond by the road things become increasingly desperate as lorries begin to fly-tip the site. An attack on a lorry driver fly-tipping brings the police when the man vanishes and his vehicle is pushed or driven into the main road - though visible on land, once in water the watersprites are translucent.
The diver had lashed at at the figure in the dark and been lured to the water's edge. Once in the water, even up to his knees, his fate was cealed as he is dragged underndeath. The watersprites only just avoid detection. Then one summer evening some kids larking about attract the attention of Hersch, a young waterspite with a sense of adventure and naive curiosity. When a child is picked on he goes and helps.
This in turn brings Freya out who is attracted to a young man who in turn is smitten by her. When they remaining watersprites learn that their pressence has been compromised the decide to leave and up sticks - just in time as a consinement of poisonous waste is dumped into their lake. Nervous, if not terrified by the sites and sounds of motorways and towns and desperate to find water where they can rest they find themselves in a series of quiet well kept pools. Little do they know that they have just made a lido their home and that in a few weeks time when it opens to the public it will be throughing with people.
In love and desperate to find her, the young men who had met Freya that night in the woods, begins his own quest to find her.
